The SPD Foundation
The SPD Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life for children and adults with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and their families by conducting and collaborating in rigorous research into the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of SPD. Established in 1979, the SPD Foundation was the first organization to operate a full-time program of research into SPD. Today, the organization is recognized as a world leader in research, education, and advocacy for this disabling neurological condition that disrupts the daily lives of an estimated 1 in 20 children and adults. As a local support group, our group's mission is to provide compassionate support to parents or caregivers and to advocate for the recognition of sensory processing disorder and its many sub-types. The SPD Foundation is currently working towards formal recognition of SPD in the DSM-V (Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Disorders). Recognition of SPD will ensure that therapies will be made available to our sensory kiddos!
